What Is Self-Honesty and How to Practice It? Pre-K SEL Lesson

The two beloved puppet companions, Squeak and Mimi, welcome the students to Positive Action Unit 5! In this lesson, pre-kindergartners begin their learning journey to self-honesty. It starts with an educational puppet show, where Mimi tells Squeak that she feels bad because she lied to herself and her mom. Squeak coaches her that to feel better about herself again, she needs to tell herself the truth. Then, she has to confess to her mom. Does Mimi feel good after following Squeak’s advice? Of course, she does!

But that’s just the beginning of this amazing lesson. The students also get to enjoy a relatable story called "Telling Yourself the Truth," which features new characters to love like Kayla, Mai, and Mr. Jazzman. This story is all about being self-honest and telling others the truth. It comes with character visual aids that will help the students really connect with the characters.

After the story, a helpful class discussion follows. Here, they talk about what self-honesty is, how telling themselves the truth makes them feel, and why it is important. Finally, a calming Positive Action song is played. Its soft and gentle beat sings about the positive actions for self-honesty and the importance of practicing it.
